The Spirit of Fighting

If you’ve seen the Korean drama “Let’s Eat 식샤를합시다 ”, you most certainly know about this dish that I’m gonna introduce today.

Let’s Eat 식샤를합시다

The drama is a 2013 South Korean drama series with 16 episodes.
Basically it’s about stories between three neighbours living on the same floor. One of them, Soo Kyung (acted by Lee Soo Kyung), is a confident woman, a foodie, and a divorcee who’s happy to be living alone. The cute neighbour girl, Jin Yi (acted by Yoon So Hee) is a rich-became-poor girl, whose father has gone to prison. Living next door, Dae Young (acted by Yoon Doo Joon), is a single man who loves gourmet food and owns a food blog.

Thanks to my friend who recommended this drama series, it became one of my favourites. It showcases lots of delicious, mouth-watering cuisine. (→ܫ←) There are so many extended eating slo-mo scenes OMG Trust me, you’ll learn about the true meaning of food porn ( º﹃º )

Besides, most of the dishes appeared in the series are introduced with closeup shots and very detailed descriptions (e.g. ingredients, method of cooking, tricks of eating), especially when they are introduced by Dae Young oppa.
He finds it very insulting when someone make negative comments on the dish they are about to eat. He then looks into the camera and starts lecturing about the awesomeness of that dish (๑´ㅁ`)

"뭐? (WHAT?) "
“뭐? (WHAT?) “

So you’ll definitely gain lots of knowledge by watching the series. It’s easy to finish the whole series within a short period, get invested and feel that it’s not enough (that is, if you’re a crazy watcher like I am)
* WARNING : Do not watch this series in the middle of the night, or else I swear you will, like me, start drooling, lose the willpower to the urge of eating, and then eventually get out of bed to start cooking (,,゚Д゚)
In almost all review blogs I read so far, they all come with this warning…

"Let's Eat" so true! This food looks so delicious!! This show made me go out and try ddeokbokki (which btw is delicious)

This is a hilarious yet heartwarming drama series. I love how it shows the slowly-formed attachment between isolated people through the shared love of food.
My favourite character is actually Soo Kyung’s dog Bara-sshi. He has some fairly human-like personality characteristics. I would love to have a dog who runs to his cage and slams the door when he’s angry (≧∀≦)~♥

…So back to the pasta. It was created by Dae Young oppa in the 8th episode. The neighbor girl Jin Yi (acted by Yoon So Hee) had a carton of warm milk and she felt pity to throw it away. So Dae Young oppa taught her to make this super convenient dish 。:.゚ヽ(*´∀`)ノ゚.:。

Compared to the usual western pasta, Toowoomba Pasta is super easy and quick to make. Also, I think this is a very environment-friendly dish.
As said by Dae Young oppa, “One of the biggest concerns of people living alone is the leftover ingredients after making and eating food. I will teach you the method to solve it. They are born again as fantastic ingredients to enhance the taste of the spaghetti“.
The dish helps reducing the amount of hoarded ingrdients and clearing the fridge (❛◡❛) b

No matter you are alone at home and feeling the need of some warmth, or living with a bustling bunch under the roof, welcome to try this dish!!

(serve 1)
INGREDIENTS :

  • Korean instant soup ramen, spicy flavour (or any kind of preferred spicy instant noodle)
  • Butter / Oil
  • 250 ml Milk
  • 1-2 slices of Cheese
  • Any other ingredients that are “sleeping in the fridge” (e.g. mushrooms, onions, onion, carrots, ham.. I used ham, onions, scallion, Japanese Kurobuta pork sausages & cloud ear/black fungus)

METHOD :

  1. Get the ingredients ready. i.e. Slice/Cut/Mince the mushrooms, ham, onion, etc.
  2. Boil a pot of water. Since the instant noodle will be stir fried again, just cook slightly for 2 mins.
  3. Remove the noodle from water and drain. Set aside.
  4. Add butter/oil into a frying pan.
  5. Saute the chopped onion. Then add in mushrooms and other ingredients and stir fry.
  6. Pour in milk and add in the cheese slices.
  7. Cook until the cheese melts, add the cooked side slightly stir-fry .
  8. Sprinkle in the magic powder which can “reduce the greasiness & add in bits of spiciness”
(as said in the drama. In fact, it is the packet of seasoning powder that comes with the instant noodle)
  9. Sprinkle some chopped green onion on top

TIPS :

  • You can add salt, pepper, raw chilies and/or Korean chili sauce to taste.
  • To create some even richer, creamier texture and fragrant, replace milk with evaporated milk or single cream (reduce the amount to about 120 ml or else you’ll feel very bloated)

To end this entry, here’s a beautiful poem from the drama :

To you, who eats a lot because of the loneliness
獻給因為孤單, 而曾經吃很多飯的你
To you, who slept a lot because of the weariness
獻給因為倦怠, 而曾經貪戀睡覺的你
To you, who cried a lot because of the sadness
獻給因為悲傷, 而曾經大哭的你
I wrote
我寫下了
Consume a difficult situation as how you consume your rice
把陷入困境的心 當作飯一樣地咀嚼吧
As life is also something that you need to digest by yourself anyway
反正人生還是要由你自己來消化的

– Chun Yanghee, Rice (千楊熙, 米飯)
